Are you tired of swimwear accessories ending up in a puddle on your bathroom floor? This post will give you some ideas for keeping them organized and off your floor!
We recently purchased a pool for our backyard I figured it would be a lot easier than having to lug four kids to and from a public pool a few times a week. Having our own pool has been fantastic! But the swimwear accessories have taken over our house.
Wet towels in the hamper (as if mold isn’t a real thing).
Swimsuits draped over the bathtub or wadded up on the bathroom floor.
And let’s not forget the pool floaties that blow all over the backyard and end up covered in dirt.
If you’re sick of wet swimsuits and towels ending up on your bathroom floor, you’re in the right place, my friend! This post will give you a couple of ideas for organizing you and your children’s swimwear, even when they’re still wet!
And you don’t need to have a pool in your backyard! If you go swimming at all during the summer, these tips can still help you! When you come home from a day at the neighborhood pool, you’ll have a specific place to put all of your suits, towels, beach bags, and accessories. The days of using your bathtub to dry your bathing suits will be long gone! So let’s get right into it!
FIGURE OUT THE BEST SOLUTION FOR YOUR NEEDS
I considered a few different options before deciding on the solution that would work for my family.
Initially, I thought about using a plastic 3-drawer unit to store all of our swimwear accessories outside, like in this image from askannamoseley.com.
But I realized that wasn’t the best idea since we live in Oklahoma and have had 116 tornadoes in the past three months (compared to 42 in all of 2018).
If you live somewhere outside of Tornado Alley, this would be a fantastic way to store your pool accessories!
I had also considered following this tutorial from jugglingactmama.com. She made an awesome pallet to hang on her fence for their growing list of pool accessories.
But again, I knew that wouldn’t work for us with the weather we’ve been having this year.
Ultimately, I decided on some type of storage unit inside of our house, right next to our sliding glass door.
I grabbed my keys and ran out the door to Walmart. Two hours later, I came back with a 3X4 wire shelving unit, some baskets, wall mounted coat hooks, and a great idea.

THE SETUP
I purchased a wire shelf at Walmart for less than $30 like this one.
My husband was able to put it together in less than 20 minutes while I was busy rearranging our dining room to make space for it next to our back door.
Once it was assembled, I set to work doing what I love – organizing!
THE STORAGE SOLUTIONS
Since we’ve only had our pool for a few weeks, we didn’t end up needing storage space on all four shelves just yet. So I used the top shelf for plants and decorations.
I’m sure our swimwear accessories will increase as the summer comes to an end, but for now, I’m enjoying the top shelf decor.
(Please ignore the hideous, outdated wood paneling, lol!)
On the 2nd shelf, I used a plastic 3-drawer unit for bug spray and sunscreen. It also holds other small accessories like our pool testing kit.
The plastic basket has bubbles, baby wipes, and swim diapers for my toddler.
On the third shelf, I used another basket for arm floaties.
Right next to the arm floaties are fresh swim towels.
The last shelf is where we keep our swim shoes, sandals, and boogie boards.
I also have a basket for larger items – the air pump and life vests.
It’s such a relief having all of our swimwear accessories in one place!
But I haven’t even got to the best part yet…
STORING WET SWIMSUITS AND TOWELS
So how can you prevent your kid’s wet bathing suits and towels from taking over your bathroom?
By using one of my favorite organizing solutions – wall mounted coat hooks!
When we change out of our bathing suits, they get hung up on the coat hooks right away.
It makes finding what we need so easy! So when we’re ready to go swimming again, my kids aren’t searching in every room of their house for their bathing suit.
The best part is – there are no piles of wet towels on the floor or draped across chairs. We hang up the towels right on the coat hooks with our suits.
There’s a hamper right underneath the coat hooks specifically for dirty towels. It also catches any extra drips from the wet suits so there’s not a puddle on the floor.
That’s our “swimwear corner”!
Our sliding glass door is just to the right so we’re fully prepared every time the kids want to go outside.
